Written Stuff So Far

Background
Think back 200 years to the Wild Wild West. Outlawed Cowboys, Sheriffs, Horses, Gunfights and Showdowns. Ok now move that Forward a few thousand years and you have the Wild Western Galactic planets. A system of outlawed criminals and Mutant Sheriffs, their Cyborg Horses and Robo Dogs and Gangster Androids. This is the scenario for the new hit Wild West Sci Fi adventure game, “The Eggfight at Planet K0R@LL.”

Game Introducton:
"It is a quiet summers afternoon on the planet K0R@LL 6. Much of this small planet is still sleeping off their hangover’s from the 23rd Annual Interplanetary Howdown that had been held here the night before. Most of the citizens on the planet had attended, including you, the sheriff who had left your Deputy Robo-Dog back at the station to keep an eye on things. The night had gone extremely well and as far as you can remember, strangely there were no incidences that occurred that evening. You had however consumed a large amount of space beer that night, and so your memory was a little hazy.
You awake from your intoxicated slumber late in the afternoon, only to discover that, bizarrely, you had slept on the bed in the towns prison cell. you stand up and notice that the door to cell is also closed. You reach into your pocket to try and find the keys to the cell. Nothing. Paranoid and still hung over you urgently try to find a way out of the cell…"

This is the opening scene for the interactive Text Adventure game that we have set out to develope for our scripting project this semester. In order to create the game we shall be using HTML, CSS and Java script. The adventure game is run completely from a series of HTML webpages which will display a scenario, and also contain links to a number of choices the player can choose. For Example:

_____________________________________________________________________

“You Wake Up. After wiping the sleep from your eyes you look around and discover you are in a Jail Cell. You have no recollection of how you got here. Within the cell you see number of pieces of furniture including a small bed, a toilet and a basin with water in it. On the ground you also see a Small piece of wire.

What do you want to do?
A: Go Back to Sleep?
B: Go To the Toilet?
C: Wash Your Hands?
D: Pick Up The Wire?

________________________________________________________________

Although there is a basic linier story to the game, the choices made by the player do to main things.
They allow the (if the right choice is selected) to continue on through the game. E.g. in the above example the player needs to select “Pick up the wire” in order to continue. If they select one of the other options, the scene will just loop until they will not be able to continue until they select the correct choice.
Different choices will add minor alterations to the story line and also will change the order in which the story is displayed. For Example:

____________________________________________________________________

“You exit the police station. To your left you see a gang of Robot bikers, standing outside the Saloon. You look to your right and you a paddock with a horse tied up in it and a dog house next to it.
What do you do?
A: Go Right to the Paddock
B: Go Right to the Dog house.
C: Go Left to the Saloon
D: Go Left and Talk to the Bikers

________________________________________________________________

All of the above options need to be done to unlock clues to get to the next part of the game, however it doesn’t matter in which order they are done.

Finally, throughout the game there will also be bad choices or decisions in varying scenarios, which if selected will result in the player’s death, thus ending the game.

Implimenting The Game
The Majority of the game will be made using a series of HTML pages, containing several frames. The First frame will contain the story, the Second will contain the choices open to the player. Finally a Third Frame will contain a navigation bar with a list of chapters down the side. As the player progresses through the game a New Chapter or Save Point will appear in this side panel. Should the player die through the game, these chapters will allow them to continue on from the beginning of that chapter rather than having to start at the very beginning of the game all over again.
